RUM :: Welcome

Director's Message

Welcome to the Graduate Studies Office Web Page!

On this page you will find general, as well as specific, information on graduate studies at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez, which includes the on-line application process as well as information on entrance requirements, academic programs, registration fees, cost of living, options for financial assistance and contacts to obtain additional information. If you are already a graduate student at UPRM, you will find information and forms on this page that you will need to reference at some point during the course of your studies to complete your master’s or doctoral degree.

By clicking the link “General Information”, the section on “37 Graduate Programs at UPRM” will take you to a video outlining the departments that offer master’s or doctoral programs at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez.

The Office of Graduate Studies counts on a dedicated team of members who can be contacted to answer your specific questions. Our goal is to simplify procedures to the extent possible within the existing regulations. For example, some of the policy changes that we implemented (see Memos of OEG under Resources and Documents) during this year are:

  • Discontinued the payment of admission fees for deferred cases.

  • Allowed eligible graduate students with assistantships to be also able to
    work on wages on campus within applicable regulations of the UPRM Senate and the U.S. Immigration Service.

  • Created a graduate student organization AEGRUM for the first time at the campus level for better communication, although some revitalization is necessary.

  • Initiated the formal process to transition from the current online Enroll Management Technology (EMT) to an improved system, namely Apply Yourself (AY) to be effective January 2009.  However, until the time AY can officially be implemented, EMT will continue to be used for January 2009 admissions.

  • Appointment of an Associate Director (who will specifically be involved with admissions-related matters) effective August 4, 2008.

We trust this information will help you plan your academic and professional future.  If you  have any questions, pleased send us an email at egraduados@uprm.edu.
